The game of words!

There is a saying that "Word is sharper than a knife and powerful than a bullet". The choice of words can change your mind completely in a positive or negative way. For example, the most influential person Martin Luther King who gave a very famous speech "I have a dream" was not only inspirational to African Americans but to many other races. His choices of words have brought a big change to society. On the other hand when we look at Hitler, his negative choices of words led to World War 2.

Physical wounds and injuries can heal through medications but poor choice of words can affect an individual mentally and can stay in their mind permanently. According to scientific studies, the positive and negative words not only affect us on a deep psychological level, but they have a significant impact on the outcome of our lives.  In a neuroscience experiment, performed by Maria Richter and collaborating scientist, showed that brain responses to negative words. They discovered that bleak words release stress and anxiety- inducing hormones to work. Moreover, the levels of anxiety in children associated with higher rates of negative self- talk are found to be increased.

Powerful and positive words can heal and uplift an individual. Infact, the choices of words have the ability to change your lives and others as well. Your good communication abilities and encouragement can enhance an individual to reach mountains! Your words can nurture, nourish and inspire children.

Though emotions like hatred, fear, anger and frustration cause us to use fueled words, whether it is written or spoken, they have the power to break and destroy the environment as well as relationships. Relationships remind me of Thomas Alva Edison, America’s greatest inventor. Edison was always curious and used to ask questions in class which his teachers were never able to answer. Hence being fed up by Edison’s questions, his teacher sent a letter to his mom stating that his son is useless for studies and from now he does not need to come to school. His mother did not show this letter to Edison and told him that he does not need to attend school as his teacher has said that he is very intelligent to attend school. Just imagine that his mother’s positive words helped him become a great inventor. If she would have shown him the letter and would have criticised him, do you think he would be the greatest inventor? The answer is simple, NO.

So it is very important for you to choose words wisely. Think about the fact that your words hold incredible power. Everything which is expressed verbally has the power to influence and change the lives of your loved ones. You have the power to inspire or destroy someone. Just like we cannot go into our past to change things, we cannot take our words back so pay attention to your language.
